I am one of those people that live under a rock, so every time I discovers something, it's usually something that had been around for a long time, and I would have this ridiculous face and the surprise that it even exist. I'm usually like "Where the heck have I been all this time?"
It's basically how I feel when I found out about Korean skin care, which has exist for a long time, but has escaped my notice, for, well, a long time. The hype about Asian skin care isn't exactly new to me, as I grew up in Viet Nam and have my share of Asian products, but when I moved to America, I "do as the Rome does" and settle with stuffs that most American used to. There came a point when I got tired of how much bad chemicals in moisturizers, lotions, and how much animal testing was making other species suffer, so I went on the path to find organic, no animal testing products - and as you know, it's either hard to find the products that fits you, and a product that fits your budget. Most organic products in America (even though it was made in China, as almost everything these days), cost an arm and a leg, more so if it is actually made in America. I think the cheapest organic products I came across was from Swanson Vitamins, and before that I was cringing inwardly and outwardly at the $38+ per 1 ounce of organic product. It wasn't conducive to poor students, not to mention it was just for me, as everyone else in my family didn't care much for organic produces. It made me feel like I was extremely picky while everyone around me uses what's available over the counter in grocery stores. I hated pretentious people, and I dislike feeling like I am one as I turned my nose up on the $10 for 36 ounces of lotion bottle, even though the stuffs in them are bad for my skin and health in the long run.
I discovered Swanson Vitamins and thought I have found the Holy Grail of skin care, and products, that wouldn't break my piggy bank. However, my skin is weird, and sometimes it would react to some products irrationally, making me have to switch skin care products quite frequently. It was costing me more than the organic items to have to keep replacing them with something else, not to mention the hassle of finding other products that my skin is satisfied with for a short time.
I thought the doom and gloom of this would be the rest of my life spend as a slave to the need of my skin. Then I found out about Korean products.
Of course, I've seen a lot of Asian products in the oriental markets I usually go to, but I didn't give a thought to it, because I couldn't read what it said, plus, I was in the mentality that things in America are better, and the cheap prices those things sported would means it's utter garbage. WRONG!!! I was so wrong!
Granted, I wouldn't just go up to the counter and buy whatever looks fancy without knowing what it is (I'm pretty paranoid now, and I would read the label in everything), and I didn't exactly found the beauty products as much as they found me. Through YouTube, of course. I don't remember exactly which video it was I started with, but suddenly, I found videos with people using Korean beauty products, and I came across a site: memebox. It was quite an eye opener, as most of the things there cost around 10-20 bucks, with the most expensive being $45 (which I didn't need), and the ingredients in these skincare/beauty product was actually safe and low in the scale of skin irritant, and the products seems to be so good! They are organic (most of them), great ingredients, and cheap! Holy macaroni I was happy.
I ordered a few products from Memebox, then found out that some of the same stuffs was offered through Amazon for a little bit cheaper (I'm a devout worshipper of Amazon), and plus I'm a prime member, the stuffs I need would get to me so much faster! Now I do like Memebox, and grateful for its help in opening the door to better skincare products for me, but the processing speed for orders in Memebox took quite a few days, and even though they have fast shipping, it was still so much longer than Amazon. I'm impatient to take care of my skin, to have good products when I need it, so I'll probably use Amazon more than Memebox, but it was still a good site, in my opinion.
YES TO BEAUTIFUL GLOWING SKIN!
